Editorial and Sourcing Policy
Scope and responsibility
Engine Finders UK Ltd is responsible for publishing EngineCode.uk. This policy sets the standards we apply when creating, reviewing and correcting engine-reference information. It is not a claim that every historic record has already completed a fresh technical audit.
Evidence standards
We prioritise documentation relevant to the exact engine, market, vehicle application and production period. Manufacturer technical documents, parts information and applicable official regulatory records can provide strong evidence when used within their scope.
A source should support the particular claim being made. A general manufacturer link, an approval reference for another variant or a document describing an engine family is not enough to establish every specification for an individual code. Regulatory information should not be presented as manufacturer approval of this website.
Secondary material can help identify a question or a possible source, but is not described as direct manufacturer confirmation. Our standard is not to publish identifiers, certification references, source citations or verification claims that we cannot support. We are reviewing existing records against that standard and will correct or remove unsupported entries as they are found.
Uncertainty and missing data
Our standard is for records to distinguish information that has not been verified, information not available to us and information a source explicitly does not disclose. These are different situations. Conflicting evidence is investigated and, where it is unresolved, the uncertainty is made visible. Some existing records have not yet been brought up to this standard.
Engine families, codes and vehicle applications are not interchangeable concepts. Similar names or codes do not establish that a replacement engine, emissions system or component is compatible.
Review and updates
A review checks the technical data, vehicle mappings, sources, visible explanatory text, FAQs and structured data together. A source or review date reflects work actually completed, not an automatic template refresh.
When a material error is found, we consider whether the same data source or template has affected other records. We may remove unsupported fields or withdraw a record pending investigation rather than continue to present disputed information as verified.
Commercial relationships
EngineCode is operated by a commercial company and offers an optional enquiry service. Our technical content does not present a particular supplier as the only suitable option merely because it is connected with us, and relevant commercial connections are disclosed. We do not use claims such as “vetted”, “best”, “lowest price” or “verified” without evidence appropriate to the claim.
Copyright and reporting
Use of a source does not itself give permission to reproduce its images or text. We respect the applicable licence or other lawful basis for reuse and distinguish our own content from third-party material.
Readers can report a problem. Our Corrections Policy explains the assessment process, and our Contact page provides privacy and copyright contacts.
AI-assisted drafting
AI-assisted drafting is used in preparing some content. It does not establish that an engine code exists, verify an application or replace evidence review. The operator remains responsible for what is published. Technical claims need relevant sources and appropriate human review; we do not invent expert identities, qualifications or inspection experience to describe that work.
